IP security cameras transmit their data feed to an IP address on the Internet. This, in turn, can be accessed by a computer with a Web browser that knows the IP address.
IP security cameras are usually wireless, and transmit their data feed through WiFi to the Internet. Some IP security cameras may only be accessed with a special Web browser, while others can be accessed with popular Web browsers such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, provided they are configured properly. IP security cameras usually come with a separate CD-ROM that contains the necessary program.
IP security cameras can transmit their data feed to a digital video recorder, which stores the video file on a hard drive. This video may also be burned to a DVD-ROM later.
IP security cameras provide several options. Motion sensors in a camera can cause it to monitor at a lower rate of resolution or stop recording entirely until activity is detected. IP security cameras can also time-stamp their images. Another option is the ability to record audio as well as video. Most IP security cameras also contain some sort of WiFi security, to prevent any unauthorized viewing of the data feed.
