Security Cameras and MoreLow light security camera systems serve a specific purpose: to film where there is insufficient light for normal cameras. This can include daylight conditions like dawn and dusk, poor indoor lighting, or outdoor areas that receive limited light, such as alleyways. These low light security camera systems use special technology to boost the camera's sensitivity to light and this take a better image. Without low light security camera systems it would be impossible to get a viable image in some areas. Low light security camera systems are rated on a special scale to determine how sensitive they are. The cameras are measured in Lux, which means their minimum illumination rating. A Lux is equal to one lumen per square meter, and a lumen is equal to one candela per radian of a solid angle. This doesn't mean anything to the average consumer, but what home owners need to look for is the Lux rating.

If the Lux rating on the low light security camera system is closer to zero, the better it will be able to work in less light. A higher Lux rating means the cameras will need more light. Night vision cameras that use infrared illumination have a zero Lux rating. Black and white cameras naturally have a lower Lux rating than color ones, which is why most low light security camera systems incorporate black and white cameras. Some systems use "day night" cameras. These simply switch from color to black and white images when light decreases.
